Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, is now on the radar of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A CBI team has raided Abhishek Banerjee's house to probe the coal smuggling case. Abhishek Banerjee's wife and Mamata Banerjee's daughter-in-law Rugiri Banerjee are being questioned by the CBI. The CBI has also issued summons to Abhishek Banerjee, asking him to appear for a 24-hour interrogation

The CBI had issued a notice to Rujira Banerjee in the coal smuggling probe. Accordingly, a team of three officers led by the investigating officer is investigating the matter. This is the first time that the CBI has issued a summons to Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee to probe the coal smuggling case.

Earlier, the CBI had also raided several close associates of Abhishek Banerjee. Trinamool Youth Congress general secretary Vinay Mishra's place was also raided in Kolkata on December 31, 2020.
