The CBI requested the High Court on Monday for time to take this decision. The court agreed to the CBI's request and granted another four-week extension to decide on the completion of investigation report.
The CBI informed the court during the previous hearing that the report on the completion of further investigation has been sent to the headquarters for final approval. At that time, the CBI had also clarified that the decision of the demand that the supervision of the High Court is necessary on the matter is being handed over to the court even when the case is ongoing.
It was mentioned after the information of the CBI that the case will be heard after the final decision on whether the report submitted by the investigating officer is accepted by the CBI headquarters or not.
The matter was heard on Monday before a bench of Justice Ajay Gadkari and Justice Prakash Naik. At that time, the CBI requested the court to give time to take a final decision on the completed investigation report. How long will it take to decide on it? The court asked the CBI lawyer Sandesh Patil. Patil said that the court should give appropriate extension of time.
After the court clarified that it was accepting the CBI's request, the accused in the case, Sharad Kalaskar and Vikram Bhave, opposed the extension. He also claimed that there is no need for court supervision on the matter. The court, however, agreed to the CBI's request and granted an extension of four weeks to decide on the completion of investigation report.
Dabholkar's family has requested the court to maintain the case even while the case is ongoing, claiming that the supervision of the High Court is necessary. Taking cognizance of this, the court ordered the CBI to clarify its position. At the same time, a report on the present status of the investigation was also ordered to be submitted.
